SP to register names for providing free electricity

The Samajwadi Party will start a campaign from Wednesday to register people who wish to get 300 units of household electricity free, a poll promise made by the party if it comes to power. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav appealed to people on Tuesday that those who have household electricity connections should get the name that is mentioned on the electricity bill registered with the party, while those who currently do not have a connection but may get one in future should use the names on ration cards or Aadhaar cards to get themselves registered and avail of the benefit. Apart from free power up to 300 units of household consumption, Yadav has also promised to waive irrigation bills of farmers if voted to power. SP workers will be taking forms to people via door-to-door campaigning.

Yadav said the reason behind the campaign is to take the issue and the promise to households, at a time when parties are bound by the Election Commission to not hold physical rallies. Yadav also said once rules are revised, he will ask for permission to resume his Samajwadi Vijay Rath even if he is allowed to take it out alone.
