Refrain from any controversy involving Bollywood singer Zubeen Garg: Himanta Biswa Sarma

GUWAHATI: With miscreants verbally abusing the Bollywood singer Zubeen Garg, Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asked political parties to refrain from any controversy involving Garg.Zubeen has campaigned against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) early this year inviting ire of ruling BJP leaders in Assam.Recently agriculture department has proposed to make Garg brand ambassador of the agriculture sector following which the singer is attacked from different quarters. Those attacking him allege that Zubeen is lured by the government to win the next year’s assembly polls. They alleged that in six months time Garg cannot turn around the agriculture sector. However those supporting the singer’s move feel that opposition CAA and accepting the offer of brand ambassador are two different things and must not be seen together. In the last couple of days in social media Zubeen’s brand ambassador move has been intensely debated. On Wednesday, Garg was verbally abused twice in Guwahati. An FIR is registered in a police station in Guwahati.

Sarma said, “I do not want Zubeen to be in politics, I do not want him to be with the government or against the government. I want him to carry on his good work in the cultural field. He must not be dragged into controversy. Political leaders must not comment on Zubeen.”Sarma said, “Police are asked to investigate the case. We want Zubeen to be above controversy.”
