Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi will contest the assembly polls from two seats. The AICC on Sunday announced his candidature from the Bhadaur seat, in addition to his sitting Chamkaur Sahib seat from where his candidature had earlier been announced. The Congress chose former Patiala Mayor Vishnu Sharma, considered a close associate of Navjyot Singh Sidhu, against former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh who broke away from the Congress. The AICC gave the Barnala seat to Manish Bansal, son of AICC treasurer Pawan Bansal, in place of the sitting party MLA. The AICC also dropped sitting MLA of Nawanshahr Angad Saini who is the husband of Rae Bareli MLA Aditi Singh, who recently resigned from the Congress and is contesting this election as a BJP candidate from the UP seat which is part of Sonia Gandhi’s Lok Sabha constituency.
