Prime Minister Narendra Modi becomes first Indian premier in 45 years to visit Poland

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday became the first Indian premier in 45 years to visit Poland. He is on a two-day official visit to the European country.

“Landed in Poland. Looking forward to the various programmes here. This visit will add momentum to the India-Poland friendship and benefit the people of our nations,” Modi tweeted upon reaching Poland.

During his stay in Poland, Modi will meet President Andrzej Sebastian Duda and hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

“My visit to Poland comes as we mark 70 years of our diplomatic relations. Poland is a key economic partner in Central Europe,” said PM Modi.

“Our mutual commitment to democracy and pluralism further reinforces our relationship. I look forward to meeting my friend Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda to further advance our partnership,” Modi said in his departure statement earlier today.

“I will also engage with the members of the vibrant Indian community in Poland,” Modi said.

Prime Minister Modi’s discussions with the Polish leadership during his two-day visit will allow the two sides to exchange views at the top level on a variety of subjects and it will be a kind of real “useful exchange” of views, Indian Ambassador to Poland Nagma Mohamed Mallick told PTI Videos.

Modi will be greeted at Jam Saheb of Nawanagar Memorial in Warsaw with performance from artistes. One of the artistes said “Our group started two years back, it gives us a lot of happiness, especially in such moments as today. We are very much honoured and happy to present it in front of him. We welcome him in Poland.”

The Indian diaspora waited for the prime minister at the hotel where he will be staying in Warsaw. A member of the Indian diaspora in Warsaw said, “We are excited to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We are looking forward to this visit as it will take India-Poland relations to new heights.”From Warsaw, Modi will travel to Ukraine on the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Ukraine since the country became independent in 1991.The prime minister will travel to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and share perspectives with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.
