Former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on Wednesday unveiled a book on his stint as head of the judiciary and made some candid confessions which might only stir up further the controversies surrounding some of his judicial and administrative decisions while in office. The former CJI denied the charge that his Rajya Sabha nomination was a “quid pro quo” for his Ayodhya judgment. The unanimous ruling came from a bench of five. CJI Gogoi led the bench. “That is nonsense,” he said, blaming the media for floating the theory. The former CJI also dispelled notions about extensive executive interference in judicial functioning. Executive interference is nil, he stated at the unveiling of his autography Justice for the Judge.
He claimed that he threw away a hot-line to the PM, Law Minister and Home Minister, that was sought to be installed in his office. “I did not meet the PM even once,” he said, except when he came to the court on Nov 26, law day. and visited his chambers after an official dinner thrown for some foreign dignitaries visiting India.Calling it a mistake, ex-CJI said he should not have been part of the bench to hear a case related to sexual harassment allegations against him.
