Coronavirus cases rise four-fold in Kerala in 15 days

Mumbai: Kerala, which had been the model state in controlling the Covid-19 epidemic in the country during the initial days of the pandemic, has more active cases than Uttar Pradesh as the state has started to experience the impact of post lockdown cases. In the last 15 days the number of cases in Kerala has jumped by four times, taking the total active cases in the country by 57,957. The state now accounts for 6% of India’s total active cases and is in top five states that is contributing to national cases. The largest number of active cases in Kerala is from Trivandrum. CM Pinarayi Vijayan in a press conference earlier this week has hinted that the state might have to consider a lockdown if the cases do not come down. Kerala is conducting 5,000 tests every day and the state has managed to keep the death rate lower than the national average. The total deaths in the state number at 697.
