Chennithala, Punjab leaders called to Delhi for peace talks

Following the factional protests in Kerala Congress after the recent appointment of the new PCC president and the Leader of Opposition, the Congress high command has invited senior leader Ramesh Chennithala to hold discussions with Sonia and Rahul Gandhi on Friday. The Gandhis may also meet some Punjab Congress leaders, perhaps including CM Captain Amarinder Singh and Navjyot Sidhu, this week-end to harmonise the upcoming state cabinet and PCC reshuffle. Chennithala, who had earlier registered his protest with Sonia Gandhi about the manner in which organisational changes were carried out in Kerala after the elections, was hurriedly called to Delhi for peace talks after he chose the venue of new PCC chief K Sudhakaran’s take-over function on Wednesday to warn that “the Congress’” enemy is always the Congress, complained that not many of his colleagues defended him against CPM’s allegations that he was soft on BJP and told Sudhakaran (who is now being similarly targeted by CPM) that he too may have to learn lessons of internal betrayals. On Punjab, the CM is learnt to be resisting the push to make Sidhu the PCC chief or a deputy chief minister.
