Bareilly court acquits 12 Tablighi Jamaat members, including 9 Thais

A Bareilly court on Friday acquitted 12 members of the Tablilghi Jamaat, including 9 Thai nationals over a lack of evidence. The case was lodged against 12 people who attended a meeting at a markaz in Nizamuddin, Delhi in March last year, allegedly violating coronavirus pandemic rules. The 12 members include 2 from Tamil Nadu, 1 local, and 9 from Thailand. The case was filed at Sadar police station in Shahjahanpur under the IPC, Epidemic Act, Disaster Management Act, Foreigners Act and the Passport Act. At the hearing on Friday, the accused pleaded innocence, said defense counsel Milan Kumar Gupta.
