The approval to three Kunbi sub-castes as former Rajya Sabha member Sambhaji Chhatrapati on Monday said the Maharashtra government should take a decision on the Maratha reservation demand in the cabinet meeting today. The opposition parties should also question the state government on how it will provide the reservation, said the Maratha royal, who formed the ‘Swarajya’ outfit in 2022.
The former MP, a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, was speaking to reporters at Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna district where he met activist Manoj Jarange, who is sitting on a hunger strike for the sixth time since September 16 midnight over the Maratha quota demand.
Additionally, Maharashtra Cabinet has decided to constitute two separate Corporations for economically weaker sections of Brahmin and Rajput castes. For Brahmin castes, ‘Parashuram Economic Development Corporation’ and for Rajput community ‘Veer Shiromani Maharana Pratap Economic Development Corporation’ is to be formed. Both corporations have been allocated Rs 50 crores each by the Cabinet.
The Shinde govt also approved proposal to name to name Pune airport as Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Pune International Airport. The decision was taken at a state cabinet meeting, an official said, adding the proposal will be sent to the Centre.
Maharashtra legislative assembly elections will be held in 288 constituencies. The Election Commission of India has yet to announce the dates for the election.
The upcoming Maharashtra election will see a contest between the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, comprising the UBT Shiv Sena, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress, and the Maha Yuti Alliance, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction).
The recent Lok Sabha Election has given a boost to the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, with the Shiv Sena (UBT) winning nine seats, the Congress 13, and the NCP-SP winning eight, bringing the total tally of the alliance to 30.On the other hand, the Mahayuti alliance suffered a major blow with BJP winning only nine seats, Shiv Sena winning seven and NCP folded with one seat, bringing the total tally of alliance to 17.(more to come)
