All India Congress Committee panel serves notices to Sunil Jakhar, K V Thomas

The disciplinary committee of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) served show-cause notices to former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Sunil Jakhar and former Union minister from Kerala KV Thomas, asking why action should not be taken against them following internal complaints of anti-party activities by them. The complaint against Jakhar, filed by AICC in-charge of Punjab Harish Chowdhury, charged the former PCC chief with unacceptable public criticism against the AICC leaders and ex-CM Charanjit Channi in connection with the Congress’ handling of the Punjab assembly polls, in which the party suffered a humiliating defeat. Kerala PCC chief K Sudhakaran approached the leadership, seeking action against Thomas by pointing out that the latter had attended a seminar organised by CPI-M by defying Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s direction to him not to do so, besides making statements causing embarrassment to the party.

“The disciplinary committee of AICC has sent notices…on April 9. They have been asked to reply to notices within a week,” AICC general secretary Tariq Anwar said.
