Opposition present only on social media: Resolution

The BJP passed a political resolution at its national executive conclave here on Sunday, stating that the party is set for a big victory in UP, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur in the forthcoming assembly elections on the basis of development and its organisational strength. It also took a dig at the opposition, calling it opportunistic and for ‘engaging with the people only through Twitter and other social media’.The five-page political resolution was moved by UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who will lead the party in the state assembly polls due early next year. It was seconded by Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai. Tourism minister G Kishan Reddy, Manipur CM Biren Singh, information and broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur and Goa CM Pramod Sawant were among those who spoke on the resolution or offered suggestions. The resolution, which highlighted 18 issues, stated: “In Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur, we have governments dedicated to welfare of the poor and development. We are moving towards a big victory in these states on the basis of development work and the strength of our organisation and this has been shown in various surveys as well.”

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the resolution acknowledged the boost given to India’s image during the vaccination drive of one billion doses, the online certification and the efficiency of the CoWin app. While the world appreciated these achievements, the opposition back home brought elements of suspicion to the whole exercise, saying it will take 40 years to vaccinate all eligible people, that it is a “BJP vaccine”, and so on.The resolution alleged that the opposition has been opportunistic during the pandemic. “While India is accomplishing new goals at the global level under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the Opposition is working only with a mindset of hatred.” It condemned the “irresponsible” role of the Opposition which has the mindset of “weakening democracy”.Sitharaman said the opposition has been mainly active on Twitter and was not seen on the streets fighting for the welfare of the people during Covid. BJP chief JP Nadda said during the conclave that the opposition had gone into “isolation” during the pandemic. With the government facing the wrath of farmers in Punjab, Haryana and western UP, the resolution emphasised on the various measures taken by the government for their welfare. It condemned the political violence in West Bengal and insisted that the BJP will fight back through the legal process. The abrogation of J&K’s special status also finds a mention in the resolution. The resolution also mentioned India keeping its commitments made at the Paris conclave on climate change in 2016 and the Panchamrit statement made by Prime Minister Modi at Glasgow.
