Wankhede’s wife Redkar seeks ‘Sena justice’

NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede’s wife Kranti Redkar has pleaded with the Shiv Sena for justice’ as she was ‘Marathi Manoos.’ Wankhede has been accused by a witness in the drugs-on-cruise case of an extortion bid, whereas Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik has made multiple allegations against him, including that he secured his job using a forged Scheduled Caste certificate. In a letter to CM Uddhav Thackeray, Redkar invoked warrior king Shivaji and the CM’s father, the late Bal Thackeray. Redkar alleged in the letter that she and her family were attacked and her ‘honour was trampled upon’. Redkar claimed though she and Wankhede were not in politics, they were attacked by politicians daily. If Bal Thackeray were alive, he would not have tolerated such attacks on a woman and her family, the actress said. Redkar called up Milind Narvekar, the CM’s personal assistant, to seek an appointment with the CM.The Sena was dismissive though. “Sameer Wankhede takes the media along during raids and when people react, she suddenly remembers that she is a Maharashtrian,” said Sena spokesperson Manisha Kayande. The BJP, however, supported Redkar. “A family is being targeted. What is happening in the state is extremely bad,” said former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya. Later in the day, he visited Wankhede’s home.

Meanwhile, the father of Sameer’s ex-wife, Zahid Qureshi, told news channels his daughter married Sameer as his family was Muslim and lived like one.
