BJP strength in Assembly down to 70 from 77 as yet another MLA joins Trinamool Congress

Kolkata: In a further jolt to the Bengal BJP, Raiganj MLA Krishna Kalyani, who had quit the BJP on October 1, rejoined AITC on Wednesday, taking the total number of BJP MLAs down to 70 from 77 since the assembly elections.”I have made a mistake and I have rectified it by coming back to the Trinamool Congress within six months of defecting,” Kalyani told mediapersons in Kolkata on Wednesday.”Conspiracy was the main reason why I left the party. People in the BJP did not allow me to work properly. There was a conspiracy to defeat me in the assembly polls also,” he said. Kalyani had joined the BJP two months before the assembly polls.

Kalyani said he wants to work with Mamata Banerjee and praised the social welfare schemes for women and other sections of society.”Kalyani won the assembly polls on a BJP ticket. However, he has full faith in the leadership of chief minister Mamata Banerjee. We have decided to induct him into the party,” Partha Chatterjee said. Reacting to the development, state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar said, “The Raiganj MLA was staying away from party activities for a long time and was not attending party programmes.”
