Trinamool Congress set to contest Assembly elections in Goa, expand all-India presence

Trinamool Congress’ pan-India dream is now reaching from eastern state of Tripura to the West coast in Goa. The party is gearing up for an electoral debut in Goa in the coming assembly polls in the state and wants its presence felt in the said assembly polls.The party is planning to take on the ruling BJP in this state, where elections will be held next year. Even, Trinamool Supremo Mamata Banerjee along with Prashant Kishor is likely to visit Goa in the coming month and some big joining is on the anvil, sources told ET.A team of I-PAC, which is assisting Trinamool Congress in expanding its nationwide presence, is already camping in Goa and surveying the political scenario for the last few months.

“Trinamool will fight and make its presence felt in all the states governed by the BJP,” Trinamool National Secretary Abhisek Banerjee said on Thursday in Samserganj.After taking up the role of Trinamool Congress National General Secretary in June after Trinamool Congress’ victory in the recently concluded assembly polls.A team of Prashant Kishor’s Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) members has been working in Goa for the last few months. “The team is surveying in Goa and many other states. It is part of Trinamool’s national expansion plan,” sources known to the development told ET.Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee may also visit Goa with poll strategist Prashant Kishor to gauge the ground situation, sources said. Goa has a 40-seat assembly, and is even smaller than Tripura. The Trinamool Congress Bengal at the moment does not have any presence in Goa. However, Congress leaders had received feelers from Trinamool in the recent past.Assembly polls in Goa are slated in 2022 and the Trinamool Congress appears confident of making its presence felt.After a whopping victory in Bengal, Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhisek Banerjee have emphasized the party’s plans to expand Trinamool Congress in other parts of the country ahead of the 2024 general elections, including Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. The Trinamool Congress is working hard to build its network in BJP-ruled Tripura, which will have polls in 2023.Aam Aadmi Party has also planned to enter into the poll fray in Goa. It will be interesting to see if Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee ties up AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal ahead of the Goa polls, political analysts said.
