New Delhi: Chhattisgarh governor Anusuiya Uikey has given her consent for convening a two-day special assembly session to pass amendment bills seeking to ‘neutralise’ the recently notified central farm laws. The permission was given after a detailed briefing by Chhattisgarh parliamentary affairs minister Ravindra Choubey on Wednesday. According to sources, Choubey sought time from Uikey as the Bhupesh Baghel government didn’t hear from Raj Bhavan. The state government had sent the file to Raj Bhavan on Monday for permission to convene a special session on October 27 and 28. However, the governor returned the file the next day seeking reasons for holding such a session when the monsoon session had been convened less than two months ago. Baghel sent back the file within hours saying the government wanted to introduce bills to protect the interest of farmers and agriculture labourers of Chhattisgarh.Choubey is learnt to have shared with Uikey the details of the amendment bills the government is planning to introduce in the session. Following the permission, Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha principal secretary Chandra Shekhar Gangrade notified the convening of the session. The brief description reviewed by ET says “administrative work” for the session agenda. The session is likely to begin with a resolution against the central farm laws. The government will introduce its amendment bills on the second day for consideration and passing. The government will introduce amendments to Chhattisgarh Krishi Upaj Mandi Adhiniyam and Chhattisgarh Land Revenue Code to ensure that any private entity opening mandis would need to submit itself to the agriculture laws of the state.
