BMC elections date: Mumbai to vote on January 15; counting on January 16

Voting for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections will be held on January 15, 2026, with counting of votes scheduled for January 16, the Maharashtra State Election Commission announced, formally kicking off the process for long-pending civic polls in the state.

“The election schedule for 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra. Filing of nominations from 23rd December to 30th December 2025… Date of poll is 15th January, 2026, and counting of votes is on 16th January 2026,” said Dinesh T Waghmare, Maharashtra State Election Commissioner.

The announcement sets the timeline for elections to the BMC, India’s richest civic body, along with polls to other municipal corporations across Maharashtra.

As per the schedule, candidates will be able to file nominations between December 23 and December 30, 2025, with scrutiny and withdrawals to follow as per the commission’s notified calendar.
